Drive-in Pallet Racking Systems
Maximise Warehouse Storage Capacity with Drive-In Racking
Drive-in pallet racking is one of the most space-efficient warehouse storage systems available, designed to maximise storage density for businesses holding large volumes of the same product. By reducing the number of access aisles and allowing forklifts to enter storage lanes directly, drive-in racking can significantly increase pallet capacity within existing warehouse space.
At Qubestor, we design, supply and install bespoke drive-in racking systems for warehouses, distribution centres, manufacturing facilities, cold stores and frozen storage environments throughout the UK.
Looking to increase pallet capacity without expanding your warehouse? Our drive-in racking solutions can help you store more pallets in less space while improving operational efficiency.
What is Drive-In Pallet Racking?
Drive-in racking is a high-density pallet storage system where forklifts drive directly into storage lanes to load and retrieve pallets from support rails.
Unlike conventional selective pallet racking, which requires an aisle between every rack, drive-in systems minimise aisle requirements by creating deep storage lanes capable of accommodating multiple pallets behind one another.
This makes drive-in racking ideal for:
- Large quantities of identical products
- Bulk pallet storage
- Seasonal stock
- Food and beverage warehouses
- Cold storage and frozen storage facilities
- Manufacturing and production environments
- Distribution centres handling batch inventory
Because pallets are stored several positions deep, drive-in racking delivers exceptionally high storage density and space utilisation.
How Does Drive-In Racking Work?
Drive-in racking operates on a Last In, First Out (LIFO) stock rotation principle.
Forklift operators enter the storage lane and place pallets onto heavy-duty support rails running along each side of the lane. When retrieving stock, the most recently stored pallet is removed first.
This storage method is particularly effective where:
- Product turnover is high
- FIFO stock rotation is not essential
- Pallets contain identical SKUs
- Bulk storage efficiency is a priority
Guide rails and rack protection systems help ensure safe forklift operation and reduce accidental damage during loading and unloading.
