Case Study
Major 3PL Warehouse Storage Solution in Leeds
Client
A large Third-Party Logistics (3PL) company
Location
Leeds, West Yorkshire
Client Requirements/ISSUE
A long-standing Qubestor client, a major third-party logistics company, secured a significant new storage and distribution contract that required a high-capacity warehouse storage solution. The client needed to create 5,000 pallet storage locations while maintaining an efficient ground-level order picking operation beneath the pallet racking system.
With strict project deadlines and the need to remain operational throughout the installation, the client required a flexible, scalable, and time-sensitive warehouse racking solution.
The Challenge
The logistics provider required:
- 5,000 adjustable pallet racking positions
- Dedicated picking locations beneath the storage area
- Maximum warehouse space utilisation
- Fast project delivery to meet contract deadlines
- Minimal disruption to ongoing warehouse operations
- A future-proof storage system capable of adapting to changing customer requirements
The scale of the operation demanded a solution that would optimise both storage density and warehouse efficiency while ensuring safe access for warehouse personnel and materials handling equipment.
Qubestor's Warehouse Storage Solution
Qubestor designed and installed a bespoke adjustable pallet racking system that delivered more than 5,000 pallet positions within an efficient and highly flexible warehouse layout.
To improve operational performance across the facility, the installation incorporated tunnel bays within racking runs exceeding 100 metres in length. This enhanced forklift truck access, reduced travel times, and improved overall warehouse productivity.
Recognising the client’s tight implementation schedule, Qubestor delivered the project using a carefully managed phased installation approach. This enabled the client to begin occupying and operating within completed sections of the warehouse while installation works were still ongoing.
The complete solution included:
- Over 5,000 adjustable pallet storage locations
- Integrated low-level picking facilities
- Strategically designed tunnel bays for improved warehouse flow
- Racking protection barriers and safety features
- Full pallet location labelling and identification
- Phased installation to minimise operational disruption
Ongoing project coordination and site management.
Project Management & Compliance
As principal project coordinators, Qubestor managed the installation from a comprehensive CDM (Construction Design and Management) compliance perspective. A dedicated full-time site manager was assigned to oversee the project, coordinating all contractors and trades on site.
This proactive approach ensured:
- Safe working practices throughout the installation
- Full compliance with UK warehouse safety regulations
- Effective communication between all parties
- Minimal disruption to warehouse operations
On-time project completion.
The Results
The completed warehouse racking installation provided the client with a highly efficient and scalable storage solution that fully supported their new logistics contract requirements.
